Release 2008.2.0: May 2008
- For both Vista and XP Operating Systems: There are no new features in this version of the easy-wire software, just a large number of changes to the install process and data file locations and a substantial amount of effort spent in fixing bugs and making sure the software works as well as possible. The install process and data file location changes were required to get the database and easy-wire software working in the Vista
operating system.
- Version Numbering Changes: The release version numbering scheme has been changed so that it is very clear which side of this software divide the customers are on.
- If SPCME, CTLWIN, and easy-wire software are on the same PC:
- this new install process will allow all three software packages to exist on the same machine. This has been a problem in the past. I would recommend, however, that the easy-wire software always be the first package installed! The install process for all three packages will be similar to the easy-wire station install.
- Read Installation Guide:
- Please make a point of reading the new installation guide provided with the software before starting an upgrade. This version install has a number of complexities which are addressed in the guide.
Release 8.9.0: October 2007
- New Probe Features: Probe functionality has been improved with this version of the software. In addition to returning the first point touched, several other important points are also returned. This information is displayed in the new Probe View tab in the test window. This tab will contain valuable diagnostic information about the points being probed included what net it belongs to, other points in that net that are also connected, points that are still open in the net, and information about nets that are shorted to that point. Probe behavior has also been improved in several other areas of the software.
Release 8.8.0: July 2007
- Twisted Pair Testing with the CH2: The CH2 tester can now test wires that have been twisted as pairs. The test is simple to setup and use and can be used to detect incorrect twisting patterns among all of the wires attached to the same connector. Go into the editor and add a twisted pair instruction to the test program to experiment.
- Built-in I/O for the CH2 Tester: The CH2 tester now has Built-in I/O capability. A DB-25 connector on the back of the first box in the system can be used to control up to nine input signals and nine output signals. These inputs and outputs can be used in the same manner as the PLC I/O currently available in the easy-wire software. I/O control is turned on through a feature registration key. Call your Cirris customer representative for the required access code.
- Guided First-End Pinning: Guided first-end pinning is a revolutionary new way to use capacitance and wire labels to insure that the correct wire is inserted into the correct cavity of a connector. This can be done with only the connector being pinned attached to the tester. The process can be used to insure that a correctly labeled wire is always inserted into the correct cavity. Assuring that the correctly labeled wire is in the correct location helps eliminate miswires later when adding splices, doing second-end pinning, or when repairs are needed in the field. Try this feature out on the easy-wire CR to see how it can improve your assembly building processes.
Release 8.7.0: April 2007
- Tare Values: Test programs now allow the setting of tare values for resistance and 4-wire resistance settings.
- Palm Switches: Palm switch functionality has been added for the CH2 model tester. (requires the latest version of the computer interface and high voltage cards).
- CR Probe Fixed: The CR probe has been altered to adjust for the capacitance on longer probes so that the probes will work better.
- Modification to CH2 Hipot Levels: Hipot test voltage on the CH2 can now be adjusted down to as low as 20 Volts.
- Server Software Update: A network only install that allows customers to install the network software once on the server and all stations are upgraded without any additional installations.
Please Note: The database file name changed from easywire.gdb to easywire.fdb. This was because the Windows auto backup feature always flags files with the .gdb extension as needing backup. This in turn, caused a 1-2 minute delay in startup times on some systems with large databases. This name (or extension) change will be handled by the 8.7.0 install process, but any customers that are doing manual backups on the easywire.gdb file will need to know that they now need to start backing up the easywire.fdb file instead.
Release 8.6.0: January 2007
- Bug Fix Release This version of the software does not contain any big new features. It does fix a number of bugs and improves the accuracy and reliability of the CH2. It also deals with the screen flashing problems caused when loose wires are inadvertently touched during the build process.
Release 8.4.0: August 2006
- Text Mode for the Editor The editor is now capable of switching between the familiar graphical editing mode and a text mode that will allow you to edit the test program using the same format as the import/export process uses. To explore this option, load a test into the editor and press the Text View button located at the bottom center of the edit window.
- Real Current for AC Dielectric Withstand Test on the CH2 The dielectric withstand test can now have a real current threshold specified. The real current is the current caused by resistance in the device and does not include the capacitive current that occurs when using AC. This option is set in the High Voltage Test Parameters window in the test program editor.

- New Delay Resistance and Ground Wire Instructions Two new instruction types have been added to allow for more flexible and accurate testing.
The Delay Resistance command applies current to the source point, waits approximately one second for the current to stabilize, and then takes the resistance reading. This is useful for testing inductors and any component that requires time for the current to stabilize.
The Ground Wire instruction (only available on the Signature CH+ tester) is used to measure resistances between points that are connected to an earth ground connection. This instruction is useful for devices that must be tested in place and may be connected to other machinery.
- Continual Improvement We strive to continually improve our products by refining and redesigning both the software and hardware when necessary to insure that it works as well as possible.
Release 6.4: July 2003
- Parent / Child Test Programs
Individual test programs can be grouped into a single 'container' test providing a new level of flexibility in test program management. A test can be setup to verify the accuracy of a device with a switch in an 'off' state. A second test can be added to test the device with the switch moved to the 'on' state. External I/O can also be used to provide even more control for each of the tests in the parent container.
To investigate this feature, press the right mouse while the cursor is over the test program list on the main window and choose "Create a New Container Test".
- Import Fixturing from Another Test If you use a common test fixture for most of your testing, you can define that fixturing once and use it over and over whenever it is needed. A simple 'touch of a button', imports the saved fixture information into a new file.
How to do it? Create a new test program, define your connectors, attach, locate the LEDs, and save the test. Now any test that uses the same fixturing can access it by pressing the "Load Fixturing from a Test Program" button on the first tab of the edit window. This will automaticly load the defined fixturing, attachments and all, into the newly created test. This new feature will save the time previously required to define and attach all of the connectors and LEDs each time you created a new test.
- Test Note Now you can display a brief note to the operator as the test is started. This may be a reminder to check a procedure, a description of the device being tested, or anything else you find useful. This note is entered from the test editor, by pressing the "Operator Note" button. Each time the test is started your note will be displayed.
- Test Window Enhancements Several enhancements have been made to the test window. Tabs have been provided to display the monitor information, errors, test notes, and the net list without having to switch to another window. In addition, this change provides all test information at your fingertips without having to wait until the device being tested is removed from the tester.
Another addition was a monitor field containing the test name. This is especially handy if you are using the parent / child test option described above.
Release 6.3: April 2003
- Schematic Documentation for Tested Assembly. Generate a schematic print of the tested assembly for customers, subcontractors, repair technicians, or line workers. This Assembly Wiring Report provides a terrific documentation package for assemblies built and tested in your shop including graphics of the connectors and complete test program information. Combine this with the new Electronic Reports for a quick, easy, and impressive electronic package.
- Electronic Reports. You can now save reports as pdf files. This allows you to make electronic copies of important test documentation that you can e-mail or electronically archive for future reference. For more information on the Adobe Acrobat Reader file format, or to download a copy of the viewer, visit www.adobe.com.
Release 6.2: December 2002
- Loose-wire Test with Probe. For assemblies with loose-wire ends you can create a test that requires the operator to probe each wire in a pre-programmed sequence, verifying that all wires are in the correct order at the connector end. This test eliminates the need to use alligator clips or EZ-Hooks to test loose-wire ends.
- Fast Attach for Connectors in Fixturing. If you consistently wire your adapter cables in the same pattern you can define adapter point labels simply by probing the first pin of each connector, rather than having to probe every pin one-at-a-time.
- Programmable Permitted Short. For assemblies that have "acceptable" shorts, such as seperate shield wires that are allowed to touch, a new instruction allows shorts but does not require connections between those points.
- Improved Usability.
You can now change a "connector type" without having to remove that connector from the test.
You can now delete a "connector type" as long as it is not used in any active test, if it is you will get a list of all active tests where it is being used.
A fast-find search allows you to quickly select "connector types" in the "define connectors" window, and connectors and pins in the test-instruction window.
- Fixture Verification. Verify that your "traditional" test fixturing does not contain opens, shorts, or miswires. (This feature is already available for easy-wire adapters).
- Self-Learn Recognizes Connections Outside of Defined Connectors. Previously, if connections existed on points outside of the defined test fixtures, they were ignored. These connections are now identified during a self-learn. You can choose to include them in the test or exclude them.
Release 6.1: September 2002
- Connector Graphics Editor. Create graphical views of your connectors. From D-subs to complicated military connectors, you can now draw representations of connector bodies including detailed features with lines, circles, arcs, and rectangles. Use copy, paste, and rotate as in CAD/drawing packages.
- Variety of Contacts Shapes Available in Connector Graphics. Choose from a variety of pin shapes for your new graphical connectors including large or small, solid or outline. Flat and coaxial contacts are available too.
- Improved Connector Viewing.
Connectors are now displayed with improved use of the screen area. Errors are highlighted with red/green pin colors to match the LED colors used in the guided assembly feature.
Release 6.0: June 2002
- New Client Server Database Architecture. Improved reliability of data integrity when test results are being collected and accessed, particularly on very large databases (gigabytes of data)
Better Network Reliability. Allows local testers to continue to load test programs and collect test data even if the network connection, or host computer, fails.
- Improved Usability. The editor automatically adjusts to test systems with different numbers of test points. It also allows tests to be created/edited even when they exceed the number of test points of the tester attached.
- Pause Instruction. This allows you to pause the test and insert an operator instruction, which is displayed as a line of text. Testing proceeds when the "continue" button is pressed.
Import/Export of Test Reports. Test report formats can be exported from one test station and imported into others.
- Test Archiving. Each time a test program is changed an archive of the previous version is created so you automatically have a history of all changes made to a test program throughout its life cycle.
Release 5.2: February 2002
- "Complex Assembly" Learn and Test. The self-learn feature now creates a test program that is more effective for devices-under-test that contain complex combinations of resistors, diodes, and capacitors. Testing now better detects faults between these complex networks of passive components.
- "Try It" button in editor. You can now execute individual instructions from the Test Editor just as they would execute in a test program. This allows you to quickly get actual measured values of resistors and capacitors to more easily create test programs and make sure they run.
- Report headers and footers. Customize reports/printouts with your company name, page preferences and more on each page of the report.
- Splices. You can now create a "virtual test point" called a splice to better document and guide assembly for wires that are connected at splices rather than at a connector contact.
Release 5.1: September 2001
- CH+ Wire list imports. Import original Signature Series CH+ test programs (wire lists).
CH+ Calibration. Check CH+ calibration with easy-wire software.
- Improved Usability. The size and location of key windows remain unchanged each time you power up, allowing you to customize your Desktop. When saving test programs, a check is made to identify and display problems that would prevent the test program from working properly. Polarity of LED's used for guided assembly is checked each time a test program is loaded (easy-wire adapters already have this feature). A validation check is performed to make sure that the highest wire resistance is lower than the lowest resistor resistance.
- Four-Wire Nominal Resistance Testing. The four-wire wire instruction has a new lower limit value that may be used to verify wire gauge and more.
- "Link" Instruction. Allows you to "link" together wires or groups of passive components to avoid isolation tests between them. This allows you to ignore detected resistances that are not really a problem and to avoid applying high voltage across components that may be damaged by high voltage tests.
Release 5.0: June 2001
- Wire Harness "Test Reports." Displays information about the device tested and the detailed results of the test. You can configure reports differently for each test or customize a style to be used consistently. A "Run report" gives the summary results of all tests run on a particular test program. Test reports can be automatically sent to the printer on each good test, bad test, or both.
- Wire Harness Labels. Print labels to attach to tested cables/harnesses. Direct printing of labels to a label printer separate from the printer used for test reports and documentation
Test Program Report. Get a summary of the setup information for the selected test program and all tests performed.
- Test Archive Report. Access historical information that has been saved in the test database. The information can be viewed by test or by station. Use a "drill down" viewer that allows you to gather detailed information quickly and easily.
- Capture Measured Values. When desired, save measured values during test for each resistor, wire, capacitor and diode instruction. Use this data for SPC analysis and more.
Excel Export. Reports can be exported to a ".csv" file (comma-delimited list) for import into Excel.
- Improved Usability. In the editor you can move test instructions with the new "drag and drop" feature. Select a group of components such as wires and change their test parameters in one action. See wire colors next to the test instruction. The security system has been simplified allowing detailed customization of different user levels. Reset test counts as needed. Restrict the amount of data captured during failing tests to limit size of test results.
