Challenge:
A company manufactures a medical device containing a rotary switch having 4 poles with 16 positions per pole. A second selector switch acts as a pole selector for the first switch. The device is a thermocouple selector, designed to route any one of 30 different thermocouple leads to a single set of output connections. A complete test of the device involved positioning the selector switches then loading and executing the appropriate test program. This process had to be repeated for each switch position. Individual test results were logged by hand as the aggregate result defined the overall acceptability of the device being tested. As you can image, test throughput was low and test errors were high.
Solution:
Using the easy-wire CR tester and the easy-wire software with PARENT/CHILD test capability, one parent test was created containing thirty child test programs as test instructions. This parent test program also kept track of the test results for a single good/bad result. During the test, each child test program displayed an operator prompt for the correct switch position for that part of the test.
Results:
The medical device manufacturer realized an increased test throughput and the elimination of test errors immediately.
