Challenge:
Test a virtual reality glove containing resistive load cells on each finger. Resistors are printed on a flat-flex circuit and they change resistance as the fingers bend. The resistors needed to be tested with the fingers straight and again with the fingers bent to represent the glove being in the open and closed fist positions.
Solution:
A custom test fixture was designed to flex the glove fingers through its intended range of motion. A custom script written for the Touch1 controlled and monitored the motion. It also measured the resistance at each checkpoint throughout the motion.
Results:
The test time was reduced 70%. The test variables were controlled improving the accuracy of the test. False failures and defect escapes were virtually eliminated. Throughput was improved to sufficiently meet required production rates for the customer.
