Cable/Harness Testing Made Easy. Last month's newsletter focused on using our custom scripting language for Signature 1100 and Touch1 testers to create special test applications. This month we tout digital input/output features that you can use without special programming. Also, if you want to instill people with the importance of quality wiring, you may want to show them an attention getting video. We discovered two videos about wiring defects in aircraft. If you have any questions or comments, call us at 1-800-441-9910. Best Regards, |

| Digital I/O (Inputs and Outputs) for Controlling Tests | ||||||
Have you ever wanted to control the beginning of a test by a start button or foot pedal? Could turning on a light or activating some other device help make sure your operators recognized a good or bad assembly? While most Cirris testers offer digital I/O, Signature 1100R+, 1100H+, and Touch1 testers make this especially easy. To see how to use the I/O functions of Cirris testers go to: Digital I/O |
With Digital I/O you can add a "Start Test" button.
| Wiring Defects that Put Lives at Risk | ||||||
Would you like to instill others with the importance of building defect-free cable/harness assemblies? The last half of a Public Broadcasting System video of aircraft crashes called "Crash Site Secrets" focuses on the potential deadly effects of wiring problems. You can read the video transcript at http://www.pbs.org/wnet/innovation/transcript_episode5.html. Locate the beginning of the wiring defect section by using the "edit, find" function on your web browser for looking for "TWA 747". More details about this video are at: http://www.pbs.org/wnet/innovation/about_episode5.html . We will loan the video to you (first come first served) or you can buy it yourself for $19.95 at http://www.shopthirteen.org. Just search on their web page for "Crash Site Secrets." While on vacation this fall I visited the desolate Nova Scotia site where Swissair Flight 111 went down. Wiring that caused a cabin fire in insulation caused this crash. Another PBS show highlighted this investigation. See details, including a transcript at: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/transcripts/3105_aircrash.html and how to buy the video for $19.95 at http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/aircrash/. While many of our customers don't produce wiring assemblies that could result in these types of catastrophes if they failed, these videos do present a good case as to why we take cable and harness testing so seriously.
