Cable/Harness Testing Made Easy.

This month we investigate another mystery. This time IR failures were traced to the harness board. Visually everything looked OK. And this IR problem can happen in other test fixtures too, not just harness boards. If you have been frustrated with assemblies that fail IR testing, this month's mystery may give you some key insights. Also, if you use easy-wire or Signature 1100 testers you may be interested in the new features of our upcoming releases.

If you have any questions or comments, call us at 1-800-441-9910.

Insulation Resistance (IR) failures can be frustrating. Usually there is nothing visibly wrong. Moreover, unless the failure is extreme, a multi-meter doesn't have a high enough resistance range to help in the diagnosis. How do you decide if that IR failure is your assembly under test or the fixturing? What invisible problems might you encounter? If you're curious how fixturing can easily be the cause then read our application note this month on IR problems in the test fixture at:

Some harness board materials are poor insulators, especially in high humidity.

We have a list of new features in the upcoming release of the easy-wire software. See what's new in easy-wire at:
