Digital I/O Capabilities

Digital I/O capability is often requested by Cirris customers looking to automate their testing processes. Cirris Systems has offered digital I/O capabilities on our older 1000R+ and 1000H+ testers for many years. Now, Cirris offers easier, more comprehensive Digital I/O capability in the Touch 1 and 1100R+/H+ series testers. The different models are listed below with associated information to help you decide which model will work best for your digital I/O application.

Digital I/O on your Touch 1, 1100R+, or 1100H+ tester makes it easy to customize your test process.

Use digital inputs to:
  • Remotely "Start Test" with an external switch, start button, input from a PLC, etc.
  • Use Palm buttons, light curtains etc. as a hipot safety switch
Use digital outputs to trigger items such as:
  • Status lights
  • Device locks
  • Stampers and Markers
  • Audio Output

1000R+ and 1000H+ Testers

The Digital I/O connector on the Signature 1000R+/H+ is found on the serial interface board, which is inside the chassis. You will need to remove the microprocessor assembly from the chassis to access this connector. This connector gives you access to the collector and emitter terminals of the transistors that are shown in the diagrams below. Digital I/O Schematic Digital I/O can be used to signal automated manufacturing equipment for many diverse purposes. For example a "bad cable" signal might actuate a machine to cut the connector off the cable. Thus insuring that any cable that tests "bad" is destroyed and not mistakenly shipped to a customer. A "Good Cable" signal may activate a robot to move the cable to the next processing point etc., etc.
Digital I/O Schematic In like manner, Digital I/O can also be used to signal automated manufacturing equipment that the testing process on a cable is completed. The "test completed" signal may sound a buzzer, activate a process or initiate some other action.

As the schematics indicate the output signal from the tester can be configured so that the output to the PCL can be active high or active low.
Digital I/O This drawing illustrates the configuration necessary to activate a relay when the cable test "good" or activate a different relay when the cable tests "bad".
