When building harnesses or cables that use individually labeled discrete wires, it is not good enough to make sure that the harness is electrically correct! You must also insure that each labeled wire is inserted into the correct cavity of the connector. This is especially critical when building single-ended harnesses that get second-end termination in a cabinet or in the field. This type of harness building requires the assembly person to correctly identify each wire and install it in the proper location in the connector. Cirris has recently pioneered the development of hardware and software that goes a long way to insure that labeled wires are inserted into the proper locations in the connector.

In addition to helping the operator accurately insert each wire in the correct cavity of the connector, Pin-Sight monitors the insertion force and gives a warning tone if excessive force is used. Pull-back force is set to give the operator a tone to verify that the contact is locked in, and also gives a warning tone if excessive pull-back force is used.

Pin-Sight uses a CCD camera connected to a computer to provide real-time imaging to guide assemblers through the process of inserting spare pins, seal plugs and identified wires into the correct connector cavity. By fixing a still photo of the empty connector in the background and then overlaying it with real-time video, we create the impression that you can 'see through' the fingers of the person inserting the wires. (The transparency level is adjustable.)

In addition to guiding proper insertion of wires, Pin-Sight is especially useful for installing spare pins and seal plugs. Generally, each cavity that will not have a wire inserted must have a spare or "fake" pin and/or seal plug installed. Since this step is usually done first it can be quite tedious since the operator must have a spare pin/seal plug list and count cavity-by-cavity to install each pin/plug. Using Pin-Sight you create a spare pin/plug "group" which places target circles around each of the cavities, making it easy for the installer to quickly insert and then verify that all pins/plugs are in the correct locations.

Pin-Sight requires NO MATING CONNECTORS because you load the connector you are working on directly into the adjustable connector holder. The connector holder works on circular, square and rectangular connectors up to 3.5" x 3.5" in size. An adapter for larger connectors, such as ARINC connectors, allows you to expand the working area in the horizontal direction. (To make this work you split the build program into separate sections and move the connector in the holder from section to section).
